OSAID

Hi, Region 3.  Here’s an update of some of the things going on.   The mock crash went very well, with the newspapers and Rogers news there. Thank you to everyone involved in making that possible.  The sign has been made for the back of the Woodstock city buses; hopefully it will be another good way to get the OSAID message out to the public. ( See Brittany's Region Round Up in the February issue of OSAID Speaks!)  On November 28th to December 2nd we had an OSAID pit stop at the RCMP Racing Against Drugs Program that allowed all of the grade 5 and 6 students in Oxford County to learn about our message and how sports and school can keep you out of trouble.   Lastly, there will be a new radio add being made for our area at the end of the month. Thank you to 104.7 Heart FM for letting us use their equipment and putting it together for us.   Hope to see you all at conference and good luck on your exams everyone! T’was the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a person was sleeping, not even a mouse;

The teens were arriving, in hopes that the party was soon to begin;

The parents were out, last minute shopping, while the snow blurred their visions;

And the girls in their heels and guys in hats had just opened the first of the drinks to come;

When from the crowd a thought was yelled, "Let’s move this party to my house!"

Away to the door they flew in a flash, tore open the car doors and threw in the keys.

The moon shone on the new fallen snow, Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below, and what to their wondering eyes should appear?

A flashing light and a black and white car, with a man trying to save the lives of hundreds, so lively and quick, why it must be the good old police.

More rapid than a river the cruisers came, and he whistled and shouted, and called them by name;

Now Ashley, now Thomas, now Victor and Geoff! Now Molly and Connor and Zack and Tori!

Please give me your keys and return to your party, for your lives were not meant to end tonight.

And back they went still safe and free, for luck was on their side once more.

Please don’t play the odds like these teens, because one day your luck may run out.  Make this holiday season memorable for the right reasons,  Merry Christmas and to all Good Night!!  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

posted November 17, 2011:    Drinking and driving is a deadly combination. One drink can change a person's  whole life, the more alcohol someone  consumes, the more difficulty that person has  judging distances and reacting to sudden dangers on the road.  On October 28th students in Woodstock learned about the dangers of drinking and driving  and experienced first hand what could happen to anyone.  A mock crash took place and then was followed up by an amazing speaker, Ashley Fearns, who survived an impaired driving incident. Students saw what happens  and now understand  more fully that thinking something dreadful will not happen doesn't mean that it can't. Drinking and driving is the number one cause of death in teens in Ontario. Please don’t be another statistic, make the right decision and help your friends to do so as well. posted October 22, 2011: Hey Region 3! How is school going? The weather is starting to get colder and along with this comes the festivities, so let’s all try and make it a safe holiday season! Drive safe and arrive alive this winter and help your friends to do so too. Every 30 minutes in Ontario someone’s life is changed forever because of impaired driving, please  don’t be another statistic.  Coming up will be a mock crash at College Avenue Secondary School, who are so excited to make this happen.  I hope all of you are having fun making school the best it can be and bringing the OSAID spirit. We would like to thank Matt Evans for making an awesome presentation, too, recently in the Region. Email Brittany at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. posted August 18, 2011: Welcome to Region 3's Rep, Brittany! Here's her first blog... Now that the rubber has been laid and the engines have fallen silent, young teens from across Toronto have devoted themselves to road safety. On July 28th the Durham Youth Safety Coalition teamed up with the Durham Policing Program for a teen seminar called Take it to the Track, Road Safety. There were many presenters of all kinds and, and the teens got to tear up the track with the indoor go karts. I was able to go with Matt Evens to help spread our OSAID message  and do a little racing myself. Seeing this many teens get together and showed they cared was awesome, and I know that there are many others out there. In places like that you get to see that no matter how little your message may seem, people will listen and take it with them. You may not see it then, or when you leave… but never give up, it’s there. If you can impact just one person, then it’s all worth it.
