posted January 20, 2012: Hey region 4! Well, it took its time but winter's finally here so be sure to take extra care on those icy roads and encourage others to do the same. Remember if there’s anything you’re doing in your school or community to spread the warning of dangerous driving, send us an email telling us about it at region4@osaid.org along with pictures. Unfortunately the regional workshop we had planned for January has had to be canceled and we’re super sorry to anyone who was looking forward to going. On the up side though, the provincial Conference is coming up soon and it’s going to be a ton of fun. The early bird deadline is March 9th so, go to http://osaid.org/index.php/conferences/how-to-register.html and sign up for a weekend full of guest speakers, games, and dances with people from all over Ontario. For Regional news, Samantha from region 4 West Hill Secondary School has recently won second place in the OSAID slogan contest with the slogan ‘texting LOL while driving could mean Loss of Life’. Great job Samantha! A contest in action right now is the Wear a Seatbelt Contest where all you have to do is go to http://osaid.org/index.php/contests/wear-a-seatbelt-contest.html and enter your name for the draw, but hurry up, the deadline is February 1st. This year for Valentines Day, make sure all your loved ones receive your love. A new OSAID Valentine's mini poster is out, and in my opinion, it’s pretty sweet. If you want to hang them up in your school, or perhaps for a Valentine's dance, you can find them in the latest article of OSAID Speaks on page 13 for English and 14 for French at http://osaid.org/index.php/newsroom/osaid-newsletter.html. I hope you all have a safe and happy start to your new years and good luck on your exams! Contact Niki. Contact Kat.
posted December 16, 2011: Hey Region 4! The regional conference for our region is set for the 13th of January and the registration forms are out. if you wish to attend the information can be found on the OSAID website at http://www.osaid.org/index.php/newsroom/region-news-and-reps-blogs/region-4/region-4-workshop.html so check it out! Also, the registration is up for the provincial Conference for later on this year is open so register early for a fun weekend with a western theme at: http://osaid.org/index.php/conferences/how-to-register/early-online-registration.html. Hope to see you there!
Christmas is right around the corner and all of us are getting into the festive spirit, but with this festive spirit people can easily be distracted and forget about the dangers that impaired driving brings. No one wants to spend Christmas in a hospital or mourning over a loved one - we have to raise awareness about our cause even more this holiday season. Get a video or PowerPoint in your school Christmas assembly, make mocktails for a Christmas dance or dinner and remind people why impaired driving is a danger.
Also, a new forum and a new contest are up on the OSAID website now. The forum is about what awareness events do you run in your school and community to deliver your message and you can read and comment on it here: http://osaid.org/blog/?p=5#comments and there's an opportunity to win a $100 voucher with the “Wear a Seatbelt” contest at: http://osaid.org/blog/?p=5#comments. Contact Niki at region4@osaid.org.
posted November 18, 2011: Hey Region 4! So, this month's blog is going to be written one instead of a video, but we hope you enjoy it none the less. The Youth Summit by the health clinic took place in Meaford on November the 18th and 19th and, on the Friday, OSAID was there with a small information booth set up so if you went and saw us there, email us and tell us what you thought of it at region4@osaid.org. Also, if there's any events going on in your school or neighborhood related to impaired driving, or any news or stories you want to share, send us an email about it and we'll include it in our blogs, and if you can, send pictures!
Speaking of pictures, all around the city of Owen Sound a lot of posters can be seen promoting safe driving on every bulletin board with space. These posters are from YOURS (Youth For Road Safety) and were shown during the Conference last year by the Decade of Action presenters. They're really great and draw a lot of attention and they're 100% free. The posters can be found at http://www.youthforroadsafety.org/activities/advocacy_and_awareness/awareness_tools so if you want to hang them up in your schools or communities (small businesses loved them and were all happy to display them) do so and tell us about it. Let's see how big we can make this message.
Also the regional workshop planning is still continuing, information on that will be heading out to as many schools in the Region as we can contact and if you want to make sure you get the details, send me an email saying so and I'll be sure to get it to you so keep an eye open for those registration forms.
