posted December 15, 2011: It's amazing how fast the Holiday Season is approaching! Even though for the most  part, this time of year brings many people joy and love it also can bring sorrow and  regret due to poor choices. These poor choices could be  drinking  and driving or driving in any way impaired. If you are planning to party this holiday season, make the smart choice and  don't drink and drive. As a friendly reminder, there are many alternatives to getting  behind the wheel  if impaired. Earlier this month, the Fellowes High School OSAID chapter  made a float for Pembroke. The theme of the float was 'The 12 Ways of Getting Home Safely.'  They  made a special lyrics to sing  and  changed the words of 'The 12 Days of Christmas'  to 'The 12 Ways of Getting Home Safely'.  Here's the song they  created to have people remember to stay safe this holiday and arrive alive.

The 12 Ways of Getting Home Safely  to the tune of: On the ___ Day of Christmas My True Friend said to Me,

1st - Day - Stay Safe, Don't Drink and Drive.
2nd - Day - Stay at a Friend's
3rd - Walk with a Buddy
4th - Take a Public Transit
5th - You can Call a Cab
6th - Freeze all the Keys
7th - Designate a Driver
8th - You can Call Your Mom
9th - You can Call Your Dad
10th - You can Stop a Friend
11th - Subway, Train, or Bus
12th - Just Stay Sober

I hope this song will help people  remember to not get behind the wheel if they are impaired. From our OSAID family to yours we wish you a very Merry Christmas and A very Happy New Year!

posted November 20, 2011:  As the Region 9 Representative I know that every Region 9 OSAID member has similar goals. Some of our goals include  getting more and more schools involved in  OSAID by forming an OSAID chapter, getting the community of each town in Region 9 notified of what drinking and driving can cause  and much more.  However , November is also a time of reflection of not only our successes but also the  disappointments and harmful outcomes impaired driving can cause. Sometimes these  harmful outcomes  can remind and encourage us to work harder to  achieving our goal. That goal is to inform more people about the harmful effects about  driving when impaired  and to stop people from dying from this cause. On August 4, this year, the Ottawa Sun  newspaper (www.ottawasun.ca) published many facts about drinking and driving. The article also focused on young teens' lives  in Ottawa  lost in collisons where impairment was suspected. Our Region, like all the other OSAID Regions experiences the after effects of someone's decision to drive when impaired. Stopping impaired driving is one of our main goals.
